THE LATEST FISHING REPORTS

Subject: buckenderra report

Hi guys, thanks again for hosting us...we love coming up, and it just seems to get better and better!

Over the three days, we stopped counting when the figure got to 145 trout!!! The majority of these were released, with all ten anglers taking their quota. Eating some tonight :)

Most came on power bait. All colours were working, however, chunky chartruse and lime twist were stand-outs. The fish were doing the normal thing, being in close early and late in the day...with them heading deeper through the thick of the day.

Spining from the shore with celtas and squidgy soft plastics was very productive...as too was tossing small bibbed minnows back into the shore and slow rolling them from hobie kayaks. Targeting boulders, and sudden drop-offs worked a treat, with the rapala X-raps (4cm), cu`ltiva mira shads, cranka shads and atomics crank-baits all producing good fish.

The fly fishing was absolutely spectacular! During the day...bead head nymphs were worked deep and slow, with this method scoring some solid fish, but it was late in the evening and into the night when the action came thick and fast. Still using the bead head nymphs in green, and hare'n'copper, along with black mudeye patterns, we were able to knock up quite a tally with a super fast retrieve. Presenting alongside, and even into the thistles, we then stripped like crazy until the line came tight. The sound of a fiesty rainbow taking to the air among the thistles was nothing short of heart-stopping, and they were a real handful to land on 4lb tippet!

Early in the mornings, i experienced some fantastic sight fishing, presenting nymphs to tailing trout in the shallows and among the thistles. This was the best sight fishing i've endured, and on the sunday morning i caught and released 7 rainbows in a short one hour session!

Anyway...can't wait to get back up there! Hope you enjoy the snapper :)

cheers guys,

Andrew badullovich.

CALF 19th Annual Fishing Competition: Buckenderra Holiday Village – Lake Eucumbene 23rd – 25th Oct. 2010.

Fishing Report:

Cobbitty Aids Leukaemia Fund’s 19th Annual trout fishing competition was held 23rd to 25th October at Buckenderra, Lake Eucumbene.  The event was held over three days from Friday to Sunday, with the dinner and auction held on the Saturday night.

83 people entered the competition with several there for the social aspect rather than serious fishing, never the less 59 anglers weighed in fish with 271 rainbow trout and 20 brown trout caught averaging 607grams clean weight.   This was a record number of fish caught during the competition.

The largest Rainbow Trout caught was 1154 grams cleaned caught by Steve Dent.

Largest Brown trout weighted 1664 grams cleaned caught by Bernie Murray.

The winner is judged on the best five fish for each angler, with 10 fish allowed to be weighed in over the three days per angler. This year’s competition winner was Steve Dent with five fish weighed in at 4226 grams.  This is the first time Steve who has been a long term supporter has won the competition.

The fishing and weather were excellent over the weekend with several competitors bagging out each day.  Fish were caught by trolling with a wide range of lures working well and the bait fisherman had most success using Berkley Power bait with a few caught using scrub worms.

Junior winner was Christopher Sandrone with five fish weighed in at 3764 grams which was third place overall which was an excellent result.

This year’s event raised $10,765.00 for R.P.A Haematology Unit, Sydney for research and patient care.

This is also a record for the 18 years of the competition.

The event is held every October at Buckenderra Holiday Village. The generosity from the fishing and boating industry is overwhelming.

Bait fishing has been the best I've seen in three years of being here especially off the bank. The fish are coming into the shallows along the grassy banks. The bait fishermen have had some pretty good catches of late with some nice rainbows being caught off the bank.

The best bait seem to be bardy grubs and Power Bait (in floro orange). It is probably better to keep the bait off the bottom so that the cruising fish will see it a little better. Another location to keep in mind are the yabbie beds which are located on the flats and the darker soil. Buckenderra has a large frontage to the lake for guest and visitors to find there own private piece of fishing space.

The temperature has dropped and the fish are back on at Buckenderra!!

Rob caught 3 rainbows on Chunky Cheese Gulp Bait and a scrubworm.

Hans and his mate caught 10 rainbows last night on Chunky Cheese and Rainbow Candy Gulp Bait.  Most were a good size and good weight.

Gordo & Phil  caight 23 rainbows on mud eye and mud eye fly. "The Mudeyes are scarce", they said. They cut their fish open and used live mudeye from the stomach of the trout.

Fly Fishing in warmer weather should make the fish a little more active and an increase insect activity will have them near the surface shorlty. Around the darker soil and the yabbie beds is more than worthy of a look also.

On the lake we should see the fish coming to the edges and especially where there are weedbeds and structure. This is great for the fly guys who should experience some good fishing if they take a little time and care. Fish should spend a little time close to the small creeks and inlets to the lake. Again I cannot emphasise the importance of staying low and treading lightly around the foreshores.

The standard patterns should work pretty well for most fly guys. Beadhead Woolly Buggers with some flash in the tail as well as Brown and Black Woollies with some flash could prove a good choice. Again at this time of the season the old flouro orange patterns are probably worth the best shot.

Fishing Report

Buckenderra is still the place to come fishing.

This weekend, we have 56 fishermen from Griffith and Tumut, having their own fishing competition. Some have arrived a few days early to check out the fishing. Glen caught 15 trout today trolling on a yellow wing brown bomber.

Chris caught a great looking fat brown trout on 24/4/11 weighing 2.78kg (ungutted) and 57cm. Bait used - a mudeye. His son followed up with another large brown the following day.

Emily & kaylee caught 16 rainbows and 1 brown trolling with Tassie Devil 67, all pan size - great eating.

Happy Fishing

The trollers seem to be picking up a number of good fish of late. Most using a variety of Tassie Devil and numerous colours. The most common have some pink, flouro orange black and red in them. Small Rapalas could even be worth a shot. Most fish that have been caught are in the 15 to 20 foot mark in the deeper water, but it is worth a shot close in to the bank especially over the yabbie banks that are all around the shores near us.

With the best access to Eucumbene here at Buckenderra we are starting to see boaties.
